Some very puzzling picks but good to see you're back to moviewatching.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid that moviewatching and movielisting aren't the same and that I'm not really doing the former. But I am enjoying the hobby as an opportunity to reflect on my experience and share it with others, just not as much as a solitary pursuit.
DeleteWhat choices did you find puzzling? This is pretty much what my taste has looked like for years.
I generally find your American cinema picks weird. For example, Bend of the River (1952) is quite a middling western even if it's quite enjoyable to watch. I was shocked you included it in your top 100 even though you rated it 3.5 on RYM.
DeleteI dunno I definitely wouldn't call it middling. It's exactly what a classic western should be IMO. I tried to give precedence to directors who I've seen a great number of films by with a generally positive response and Anthony Mann is one of those.
DeleteLooking back, my RYM ratings for him seem a little low. But in general 3.5/4.0 and 4.5/5.0 can be considered to be very porous categories for me on RYM and anything from 3.5 upward could make it on a list.
Gotcha. Cheers!
